Press Release: Putnam PSD finishes in the top 5 nationally at the Great American Water Taste Test
Washington, D.C. (February 8, 2012) – In recent years, Putnam Public Service District has consistently been rated as has having some of the most palatable water in West Virginia. At the 2012 National Rural Water Association Rural Water Rally & Great American Water Taste Test in Washington, DC, this recognition has extended nationally, as Putnam PSD’s water has finished in the top 5 best tasting tap waters in America.
Of the five finalists, Putnam PSD is the only system that draws its source water from the surface of the earth rather than an underground aquifer, thereby confirming that Putnam PSD has the finest tasting surface water in the country. Surface water is more difficult to treat than groundwater and requires a more rigorous treatment process, as there is enhanced risk for contaminants that could alter the taste of the finished product. Furthermore, Putnam PSD has the largest treatment plant of any of the finalists.
PPSD General Manager Mike McNulty reacted to the award by commenting, “Safe, clean, and affordable drinking water is a major issue everywhere in the world. PPSD Superintendent of Water Quality John Inghram added, “We have a highest regard for our customers.
